- About the SuperServer Programs
- ------------------------------
-
- Traditionally, server stress tests have been done by attaching a number of
- workstations to the server through one or more network adapters. The more
- workstations attached, the greater the stress on the server. PC Week's
- Applications Test Suite takes this approach to server testing.
-
- The I/O capacity of some computers is so high that a unreal-istically large
- number of workstations would be required to properly stress them. Thus, PC
- Week worked with NetFrame, Inc. to develop and test two NetWare 386 NetWare
- Loadable Modules (NLMs) that can stress a NetWare server without the need for
- any at-tached workstations. One of these NLMs tests NetWare disk I/O sub-
- systems (DX.NLM). The other tests LAN I/O sub-systems (NX.NLM).
-
- Users of these NLMs are cautioned to read the documentation carefully. Disk
- Write tests will destroy the NetWare volume against which they are run. And,
- running both the LAN and disk I/O NLMs requires special precautions, if
- correct server CPU utilization results are to be correctly measured.
